The Disappointment of Black Women in the Democratic Party: Reflections on Kamala Harris's Loss
“This isn’t a loss for Black women, it’s a loss for the country,” said Waikinya Clanton, the founder of the organizing group Black Women for Kamala. “America has revealed to us her true self,” she added, “and we have to decide what we do with her from here.”
Per a report shared by Erica L. Green and Maya King of the N.Y. Times November 7, 2024 titled "For Black Women America Has Revealed to Us Her True Self." Black women in the Democratic Party faced disappointment as America chose a man with a troubled past over the opportunity to elect a qualified, Black woman Vice President of the United States, as president for 2025. Despite a lack of campaign controversies, Kamala Harris's loss was seen as a reflection of deep-rooted issues of racism and sexism in the country. The defeat was a blow to Black female leaders who had hoped for a new era of representation. Their hard work for the party often went unrecognized, highlighting a longstanding lack of inclusion in decision-making. The outcome left many questioning America's true values and the path forward for Black women in politics. To learn more about Green & King's clarion call news analysis report please click the link:
