Gee Manetti's It's Hot Outside!
Per a weather report shared by Veronica Flesher of the Middletown Patch, this weekend will be HOT! Yes, we're talking about being able to fry eggs on the streets but don't eat them. We don't know where these streets have been. (jokes) According to the latest forecast by the National Weather Service, the heat index is anticipated to "reach more than 100 degrees in most of New Jersey by Friday afternoon." This extreme heat poses potential risks to pedestrians' health and safety, making it crucial to be aware and cautious.
It's crucial to stay hydrated and find ways to stay cool during this time. By taking these proactive steps, you can prepare yourself for the upcoming extreme weather conditions.
"Excessive heat means that parts of Central and South Jersey will be under a heat advisory starting Friday morning through Saturday. In these areas, you can expect heat indexes to be 100 to 104 degrees, forecasters say."
As we head into the afternoon, scattered storms are possible in North Jersey. "Heavy rain will likely be the biggest concern locally, according to the National Weather Service, but the strongest storms may produce damaging wind gusts." Rest assured, the National Weather Service is closely monitoring the situation. It will still be sweltering and muggy overnight, with things only worsening on Saturday. It'll be another heat advisory day with heat indexesof up to 105 degrees, per the National Weather Services. https://patch.com/new-jersey/middletown-nj/s/ixnxj/triple-digit-heat-storms-target-nj-in-weekend-forecast?utm_source=alert-breakingnews&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=alert&user_email=8b63617579edf54cbadf7183154015d85784f08e1cf6f4064784661f1b651b81&user_email_md5=e90707a6228d470c252bb1bc33689a6b&lctg=6571e20423b29a937d012200

To Have Or Not To Have Cell Phones In The Classroom
That Is The Question!
According to a report by Carly Baldwin of the Middletown Patch titled "Not All Agree With Middletown's Proposed Cell Phone 'Ban' In Schools," published on July 3, 2024, shares the controversy surrounding the Middletown Board of Education's proposal to limit cell phone use in schools. Currently students turn off their phones before entering the classroom and use them only during lunch and recess. But the N.J. Middletown Board of Education seeks to enforce additional restrictions. And here's why studies have shown that cell phones can be distracting and lead to a lack of focus and attention among students. Additionally, research has found that cyberbullying contributes to students' distractions and anxiety levels. Hence, less access to cell phones can assist with blocking distractions, as mentioned earlier.
But concerned parents are questioning the proposal for good reason, and here's why. Per a report shared by the Washington Post written by John Woodrow Cox, Steven Rich, Lucas Trevor, John Muyskens, and Monica Ulmanu on July 1, 2024, titled "More than 378,000 students have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine." Per the article, "The Washington Post has spent years tracking how many children in the United States have been exposed to gun violence during school hours since the Columbine High massacre in 1999." To learn more, please click the link:
Many Americans remember when school shootings were a rare occurrence, along with gun violence and gang activity. Moreover Americans have witnessed people experiencing mental health crises and attacking innocent children which has become an all to real reality in this day and time. America experienced a cultural shift that took off in the '90s when Americans witnessed the tragic incident that remains sketched in their hearts and minds. Columbine. Americans have seen a significant change in beliefs, values, norms, and practices in American society over the past 45 years. It is plausible to understand that most parents demand that their child's cell phones be activated at all times because times have changed, but not for the better, per some opinions. Beyond Expectations: The Inspiring Life of Patricia McGill
Per a medical report by Jared Kaltwasser of the American Journal of Managed Care titled "Sickle Cell Disease Cuts 20 Years From Life Expectancy Study Finds," Dated March 24, 2023 shares that " People with sickle cell have a life expectancy of more than two decades shorter than the general population." https://www.ajmc.com/view/sickle-cell-disease-cuts-20-years-from-life-expectancy-study-finds
This is why Ms. Patricia McGill is so extraordinary. McGill is one of the oldest people to outlive the life expectancy of the disease Sickle Cell Anemia. McGill has just celebrated her 80th birthday despite being diagnosed with the illness when she was 13 years old. Gill was determined to live a fulfilling life. As a child, her parents did not know precisely why Patricia would become so ill. The common cold as a child for Patricia was horrible. Her sibling recovered quickly while McGill's symptoms lingered. Eventually, McGill would be diagnosed at 13 years old with sickle cell anemia. Patricia, now 80 years old, is a living testament to the goodness of God. In reflection, McGill acquired her teaching degree and worked for 37 years with students with learning disabilities. She has children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her story inspires families with loved ones who suffer from the illness and can glean from Ms. McGill's life story that there is hope for friends and family members with sickle cell disease. (SCD). Big ups to: Phil Lewis from "What I'm Reading" from San Francisco California for sharing this wonderful story with the relaunched Echo. https://www.whatimreading.net/
