Who is Marilyn Mosby

Marilyn Mosby, a 44-year-old African American politician and lawyer, has courageously embraced the challenging responsibility of ensuring accountability within law enforcement and among those who commit wrongful acts. As the former State's Attorney for Baltimore, she fearlessly pursued charges against six police officers in the tragic case of Freddie Gray's death, demonstrating her commitment to combating injustice in her community. Marilyn has been a staunch advocate for criminal justice reforms, spearheading efforts to end the war on drugs in Baltimore and tirelessly advocating for the exoneration of individuals who have been wrongfully convicted. Despite her steadfast dedication to upholding justice, Marilyn has found herself facing unjust prosecution by the DOJ for minor financial transactions, placing everything she holds dear in jeopardy. Mosby's handling of long-term systematic attacks against Black citizens, in particular, sparked widespread discussion and debate regarding police conduct, racial justice, and the role of prosecutors in addressing systemic issues.

In January 2022, Mosley was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to a loan application and perjury associated with a COVID-19 financial hardship withdrawal. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the American economy in various ways. The pandemic led to widespread business closures, supply chain disruptions, and a sharp increase in unemployment rates. Many industries, such as hospitality, travel, and entertainment, suffered greatly due to lockdowns and restrictions, resulting in significant financial losses. Additionally, the stock market experienced extreme volatility, and the government implemented various economic stimulus measures to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Overall, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a substantial financial downturn in North America.

Update

In February 2024, former Baltimore City State Attorney Marilyn Mosby's federal mortgage fraud trial ended with a split verdict. According to a press release from the Department of Justice, a federal jury found Mosby guilty of making a false mortgage application related to a vacation home she bought in Long Boat Key, Florida. On a side note: Homeowners in America have obtained additional mortgages for years to finance their properties. Securing a mortgage depends on factors such as creditworthiness, income, and property equity that Mosby qualified for. This is a common practice in America.

Hence, the jury acquitted her of the second charge of making a false mortgage application in connection to her vacation home in Kissimmee, Florida. Please click the link to hear Angela Yee's of the Breakfast Club interview with Mosby.

Mosby was originally was convicted in November 2023 on two counts of perjury. Jurors seem to have a really tough time considering Mosby earning a salary of $248,000 a year while seeking additional funds in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 outbreak. Per our research, we found that per a Liberty Street Economic Report provided by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York that, roughly five million borrowers (property owners) collectively accessed $430 billion in home equity through their refinancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the accusation against Mosby indicated a biased approach within the courtroom.

The Reality Of The Black Tax

The reality is that people of color often shoulder additional financial responsibilities by supporting family members who are less financially secure. As well as Black churches and institutions. This phenomenon, known as the "Black tax," refers to the money that Black professionals contribute to their family members plus community out of a sense of obligation and familial responsibility. That their non-Black peers may not experience. These financial transfers commonly occur between middle-class and affluent Black individuals and their relatives facing economic challenges. Hence, judging or blocking Black citizens from accessing the monetary resources they qualify for during the COVID-19 Pandemic is understandable. Blocking said citizen is akin to redlining that's against the law.

Relaunched Echo Opinion

The unfair and racially motivated targeting of Marilyn Mosley for courageously speaking out about the injustices faced by both Black civilians and Black police officers whom Mosby supported reaks of racism. Her husband split. Her children and family members are traumatized. And she has been robbed for doing the right thing. American newsmakers have dragged this Black woman across our screen as if she was Jesus Christ going to be nailed to the cross. All while the Black church stood and watched silently for the last two years. Every Black church in the nation ought to have sent a petition to the governor of Maryland and President Biden, voicing their deep concern about the discriminatory practices and defamation against Mosby for simply doing what is right. Protecting the public as a city and state attorney was her job. Not covering up the racist and life-threatening behavior of police officers who probably have no business being police officers in the first place.

It is disheartening to witness the public prosecution of many Black female lawyers in one year for simply doing what is right and their job. This reluctance of both the criminal justice system and the Black Church highlights the ongoing issue of oppression faced by the Black community. It is evident that America's priorities are askew. (On a side note: Big ups to the Congressional Black Caucus for coming to Mosby's aid.)

Food For Thought

Consider this: individuals and groups can enter the country unlawfully with illegal firearms and guns, engage in human trafficking, and face no legal consequences due to the Sanctuary Movement Policies that the federal government does not uphold. Meanwhile, lawyers who are law-abiding citizens are publicly attacked to satisfy a racist agenda. How do you feel about that? Let us know at echonewstv.com
