Thanksgiving Football Game Drama:
Manasquan Players vs. Wall Marching Band in Unexpected Showdown
Picture Source of a Mystery: Wix Media
In a story by Carly Baldwin of the Middletown Patch titled "Manasquan Mom Gives Video: Footballers Accused Of Knocking Wall Band," we learn that the Wall vs. Manasquan football games have become a Thanksgiving staple, much like turkey and awkward family conversations. This year, however, the game brought a different kind of drama. Two Wall Township parents claimed that some enthusiastic Manasquan varsity football players "ran through" and knocked over the Wall High School marching band during their pre-game performance. Apparently, the footballers were so eager to kick off the game that they mistook the marching band for a speed bump!
One beleaguered mom reported that parents from her side started hurling colorful language at the band members, telling them to "get the f—off the field." You know it’s getting serious when parents start channeling their inner sports commentators in the stands! Brian Harris, a dad who witnessed the commotion, said, “What I saw was basically assault.” He added that he saw football players pushing around flag twirlers, which might have turned the halftime show into a real-life episode of “Dancing with the Stars: Turf War Edition.”
Although he later clarified he didn’t see anyone actually knocked over, it sounds like it was close enough. And just to spice things up, a Manasquan mom stepped in with her own video, possibly ready to win the Oscar for “Best Supporting Evidence.” Whatever the outcome, it’s clear that this year’s Thanksgiving game served up more drama than a family dinner! Tragic Loss: Alabama A&M Football Player Medrick Burnett Jr. Dies After Head Injury
Phil Lewis of "What I'm Reading" shared a report published by ESPN AP about a tragic event involving an African American football player in BIRMINGHAM, Ala. An Alabama A&M football player who suffered a head injury during an October game has died. Medrick Burnett Jr., 20, was in his first season as a linebacker with Alabama A&M when he was injured during the annual Magic City Classic against in-state rival Alabama State on Oct. 26, according to the Jefferson County coroner on Friday. The coroner recorded his official time of death as Wednesday evening.
The Alabama A&M athletic department announced Burnett's death on Wednesday morning but later retracted the statement that day. The second statement mentioned that the initial news of Burnett's death came "from an immediate family member on Tuesday evening."

Russia's Oreshnik Missile Debut: Strategic Showcase
In a Carnegie Politika article titled "Russia's Hypersonic Missile Attack on Ukraine Was an Attempt at Blackmail," Maxim Starchak explains that Russia's strike on Dnipro on November 21 was the first time a ballistic missile with multiple independently guided warheads was used in combat. Initially, people thought it was an RS-26 Rubezh, but President Putin later said it was a new missile called the Oreshnik. Ukrainian intelligence tied it to the Russian Kedr missile system. Putin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, mentioned the attack was a reaction to the West letting Ukraine use long-range missiles against Russia. Even though Putin claimed that Ukraine's use of ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles wouldn't change the battlefield, the Oreshnik launch seemed to be Russia's way of showing off its missile power and putting pressure on Europe. However, Russian analysts pointed out that they need a big stockpile for deterrence, and the Oreshnik is still being tested with only a few available. Economically, using such a pricey missile like the Oreshnik on Dnipro was overkill when cheaper options like Iskander could do the job just as well. Plus, testing weapons in combat isn't efficient because important data gets lost. The Oreshnik's development happened after the INF Treaty, which banned these kinds of missiles, fell apart. Accuweather Predicts a Snowier Winter
for the Northeast with La Niña Influences
According to a Middletown Patch Weather report by Kara Seymour, "while winter officially begins on Dec. 21, meteorological winter starts this weekend, on Dec. 1." Several meteorologists have offered their forecasts regarding the snowfall for the season in the Garden State. Here's an overview of their predictions:
Accuweather
An AccuWeather 2024-25 winter forecast anticipates more snow than last year, suggesting the season "could end with a bang" in the Northeast. According to the private weather company's forecast, winter will feature some "meteorological twists and turns" with potential bursts of heavy snow and blasts of cold air. A key factor in this long-range forecast is the La Niña weather pattern, which can affect the path of snowstorms. The wintry weather will alternate with calmer periods as Pacific air moves across the country. Forecasters mentioned that snow is possible in the Northeast during December, while January is expected to be milder.
"Snow shovels will be needed across the Northeast and Midwest this winter, although they may gather dust at times as weather patterns fluctuate between mild and rainy, and cold and snowy," Accuweather stated. February is the most likely month for a polar vortex to occur — a large area of cold, low-pressure air rotating counterclockwise around Earth's poles that can expand in the winter and bring cold air southward. However, there is less certainty this year about when or if the frigid air will reach the continental U.S. To learn more about the wintery weather ahead, please click the link here: https://patch.com/new-jersey/middletown-nj/s/j1l2l/meteorological-winter-starts-sunday-how-snowy-will-it-be-in-nj?utm_source=local-update&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=alert
