On July 17, 2024, New Jersey Law Enforcement alerted the public of the arrest of four additional persons in connection to the Caroleo murder that occurred on June 27, 2024, on Hope Chapel Rd, Rte 547, in Manchester, NJ. The legal system takes These offenses very seriously and can result in substantial penalties, including imprisonment and fines.

Johnston was identified initially to police in connection to 25-year-old Gabriella Caroleo's death because "Caroleo texted her mother shortly before the shooting on June 27, 2024." Caroleo told her mother to call the police and referenced Johnston in the text. "Caroleo's mother called her daughter Gabriella and spoke to her daughter, where Johnston could be heard screaming in the background. Caroleo called 911 at 4:55 P.M. on June 27, 2024, and alerted the dispatcher that she had been shot and identified the shooter as 35-year-old Maxwell Johnston." https://nj1015.com/gabriella-caroleo-death-investigation-2/

Per the district attorney's office, investigators were informed that evidence in connection to Caroleo's and 56-year-old Kerry Rollason's murder might be available at a property located on Toms River Rd in Jackson Township, NJ. When officers arrived at the home and began investigating the property, they located "numerous body parts in black bags along with a .22 caliber handgun connected to Rollason's murder. The autopsy of Rollason revealed he was shot multiple times and suffered blunt force trauma before his body was dismembered and placed in bags."

In search of Johnston, officers arrived at the home on Ravenwood Drive in Jackson, NJ, on July 5, 2024, in Manchester Township. Officers announced their presence in front of the house and requested a standard "call out." Bolstad, Krysiak, and Palumbo exited the property while Maxwell Johnston and Elizabeth Masverilli remained inside the Ravenwood Drive Jackson, NJ, property. After further negotiations, Mascerelli exited the property, and officers later located Johnston with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Hence, this horrific story shared tragedy from the beginning until the end of this bizarre saga that still leaves the question of why.
