NEWARK, NJ – In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the Black community, Tyron Whitley, a 38-year-old music writer and hip hop artist from New Jersey, was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon December 17, 2024. Whitley was known for his songs My Eyes, Heartbreaker, and M.O.O. (My Only Option.) Who per his twitter account on X was followed by Sheryl Underwood Co-host of "The Talk on CBS,; owner operator of Sheryl Underwood Radio,; and CEO of Pack Rat Production & Foundation Inc. Underwood is also the 23rd International President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Underwood being such a notable influencer following Mr. Tyron Whitley on social media, reflects Whitley's diverse talents plus entertainment likeability. The incident occurred on North 9th Street in Newark, NJ, involving a 26-year-old man. After the shooting, a suspect exchanged gunfire with Newark police officers who quickly responded to the scene upon hearing gunshots in the distance.
The victim, Tyron Whitley, was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to University Hospital in Newark, where medical personnel were unable to save his life. Whitley was known in the local arts scene not only for his contributions to music writing but also for his vibrant expression as a rapper.
